Furniture Meets Fashion

During Copenhagen Fashion Week, our showroom transformed into a runway stage, when we had the honour of hosting Danish fashion designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan’s AW17 fashion show.

When Mark Kenly Domino Tan presented his AW17 collection as part of Copenhagen Fashion Week, a long row of seating arrangements sloped their way through the entire Normann Copenhagen showroom, where a colorful mix of Circus poufs, Form chairs, Tap stools and Era lounge chairs offered seating for the show’s audience.

Under the creative direction of Femmes Régionales, Mark Kenly Domino Tan presented his 1930s-inspired collection accompanied by a sound piece of Copenhagen-based DJ Christian D’Or, and a choreography by acclaimed Danish choreographer Toniah Pedersen.

Blush circus pouf, Era lounge chair and Tap stools formed the scenography of the show.

The new showroom was the frame of the show, where the seating furniture has been staged in a way that it becomes the scenography. “Guests are seated within the scenography so to speak,” Femmes Régionales tells us.

“Sitting high or low, soft, hard, bright or pastel. This gives everybody a unique experience.”

“I like the idea of mixing all the furniture up,” fashion designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan explains. “It creates an interesting setting for the audience. Sitting high or low, soft, hard, bright or pastel. This gives everybody a unique experience.”

A mix of material and color created the setting for Mark Tan’s AW 17 show.

Mark Kenly Domino Tan’s AW17 collection showed a mix of working class silhouettes with well-thought out details and stand-out fabrics, made of siIk, cotton, wool, and recyclable polyester materials.

“I value the craft and tradition behind creating a piece of furniture.”

“The collection’s main inspiration is 1930s working class, the working man, the fisherman, the factory worker. I am focusing on the craft for creating a garment and the handmade value,” Mark Tan points out.

Models walked through the showroom in an exclusive and intimate ambiance.

Driven by the fascination of merging fashion, interior, architecture and art, some embroidery and prints were created in partnership with the Danish textile designer Helene Blanche, who is well known for her artistic and high quality furniture upholstery and textile design.

Referring to the interior in the showroom and his textiles developed together with Helene Blanche, Mark Tan tells us: “I value the craft and tradition behind creating a piece of furniture.”

The illuminated shaft leading into the pink gallery forms the frame of Mark’s lookbook pictures.

With a simple and minimal approach to creating shape, Mark Kenly Domino Tan’s collection was in perfect harmony with the showroom interior of Normann Copenhagen, where both complemented each other in their mix of textures and colors.

“I have always been attracted to the architecture of the Normann Copenhagen showroom, with its long narrow entree, the different levels and its high sealing. The combination of textures and colors created the perfect setting for my AW 2017 collection,” Mark Kenly Domino Tan concluded after the show.
