Limit Lounge Chair Outdoor in the streets of Copenhagen

For Copenhagen’s annual 3daysofdesign festival in June, we collaborated with outdoor textile brand Sunbrella, and placed 110 Limit Lounge Chair Outdoor chairs in the street outside our Copenhagen showroom.

Originally created during the oil crisis in 1974 where material availability was limited, Limit Lounge Chair was conceived by Niels Bendtsen with the idea to create a chair that used minimal waste and maximum logic. Working with clear constraints, Niels transformed limitation into possibility, allowing necessity to define both structure and expression.

For 3daysofdesign in June 2026, Normann Copenhagen reissued the chair, bringing the original indoor version to a new generation and, for the first time, introducing an outdoor version, covered with high-performing textiles by Sunbrella, designed to withstand the elements.

Lined up along the street for the duration of the festival, the chairs turned a stretch of road into a place to stop. Visitors and passers-by paused, sat, and tested the comfort for themselves – showing how a chair first introduced in 1974 remains as relevant today as ever.

The unpredictable Copenhagen weather put Limit Lounge Chair Outdoor to the test, from bright sunshine to sudden rain showers, demonstrating its ability to meet the demands of outdoor living.
