ACE AND ACROBAT TAKE THE STAGE

It’s the fourth year in a row that Normann Copenhagen has won the German Design Award! This year two of our designs claimed the prestigious prize: the magnetic Acrobat lamp and the flat-packed Ace chair were awarded for outstanding design.

Out of more than 4000 entries, the jury selected Ace and Acrobat among the winners of Excellent Product Design in the categories ‘Furniture’ and ‘Lighting’ respectively. At Normann Copenhagen, we could not be more proud and happy about this recognition!

THE ACE CHAIR
FLAT-PACKED LOUNGE FURNITURE

Imagine a box with a handle that you can just take with you from the store, and transform its content into an exclusive and comfortable lounge chair within minutes. The Ace collection innovatively unifies luxurious upholstered furniture with the functional flat-pack principle, and thereby creates an expressive design piece, inspired by an urban lifestyle.

In the development of Ace, the young designer Hans Hornemann has worked intensively with all stages of the design process, from shaping and manufacturing, to logistics, storage and transport. Hans Hornemann says:

"It is overwhelming to receive such a prestigious award for my first launched furniture series. In particular, for this furniture line, where the starting point has been myself and my social surroundings. I am honoured that the jury sees the same potential."

THE ACROBAT LAMP
MAKING MAGIC WITH MAGNETS

The Acrobat lamp surprised the jury with its eye-catching design language that makes the lamp distinctly recognizable. The lamp consists of two parts: a cone-shaped base and an oblong LED light source that are held together by a magnet only. This lets Acrobat take on almost magical positions that challenge the traditional view of an adjustable lamp.

It took three years to develop the innovative and futuristic lamp, which is now honoured with the German award. Marc Venot explains about the Acrobat lamp:

”I was looking for a way to achieve a multi directional table lamp without any mechanical connection. I wanted to find a magic gesture, intelligent and without limits. It's always a pleasure when a jury of design experts decides to reward a product that you have drawn. I am very touched that the jury was receptive to the design.”

The design awards will be celebrated with a huge award show and exhibition during the international Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt in February 2017.
