About the collection

Normann x Brask

In collaboration with art curator Jens-Peter Brask, Normann Copenhagen presents a special collection at the intersection of art and design.

Ten artists have worked together with Normann Copenhagen to convey their artistic practice in an object that traverses the border between art and design, giving us their interpretation of integrating art into the practice of everyday life. The result is a colorful and eclectic collection that ranges from saucy playing cards over abstract mirrors to a sculptural six-legged side table.

The Normann x Brask Art Collection is the next installment in a long line of initiatives within art and culture that Normann Copenhagen has helped to support. Examples include the CHART art festival, CPH Art Week, the CPH:DOX documentary film festival and recently, the latest venue to open in Copenhagen, Hotel Cecil.

The collaboration

Artists

The fantastic creations were brought to life by Ryan Schneider, Jørgen Haugen Sørensen, Mira Dancy, Greg Bogin, Vincent Dermody, Roma Manikhin, Tony Matelli, Gudrun Hasle, Graham Collins and Anton Munar.

"We are very honored to be working with such a strong team of artists. The emotive and reflexive aspects that art addresses appear to be becoming more and more important in the field of design, and we are interested in seeking out new creative perspectives by working in the field that stretches between both disciplines. With this collection, we are able to add a new dimension to our universe and give more people the opportunity to take a little piece of art home with them."
– Poul Madsen, director of Normann Copenhagen.

Curator

Jens-Peter Brask

Curator and art collector Jens-Peter Brask has curated the various pieces and mediated the contact between the artists and Normann Copenhagen. About the collaboration, he says:

"When Normann Copenhagen told me about their thoughts of integrating art and design, I was immediately attracted to the idea. The art will be displayed in a new way; no longer simply hanging on a wall but becoming useful and more straight-forward. The collection approaches art with the greatest respect and actuate it in an interesting and positive way."
– Curator Jens-Peter Brask

Jens-Peter Brask began his art career as a passionate and fervent collector. He started collecting art at an early age and quickly amassed an impressive private collection. His passion later developed into his profession, and today Brask uses his self-taught knowledge on art in his work as a curator. Jens-Peter Brask has published three books: Brask Studio Visits and the follow-ups Brask Studio Visits II and III, which invite readers to embark on a rare visit into the artist's studio.
